I’m a tech person, I have to admit it. Given that, I’m always experimenting with new lighting and audio / video setups.

I actually just bought a product that isn’t released yet since its supposed to mimic a DSLR without needing all the gear to make that work. This is the current setup I have.

Next month, I will be testing the the Lumina Camera to see if I like it. The Lumina is released in June, though I’ve pre-purchased it (www.getlumina.com).

Camera
– Logitech Brio 4K Web Cam: records up to 4k; I use in 1080p. DO NOT use this without the web cam settings app or you will not be happy.

– Phopix Camera Tripod: any tripod works, but this one is the easiest I’ve used.

Lighting
– (2) Neewer Accent Lights: This a positioned diagonally behind my laptop and light me on angle. They’re usually turned down two clicks, depending on how your room lights.

– Farsaw Ring Light: I use this as a center light, positioned right behind the camera and keep it on its highest setting.

– Banner Buzz CYOL Banner: I used black, I just don’t like how a white banner lights; its up to your preference. Your first order with Banner Buzz is 20% off. Also, You may want to use gaffers clips so the banner is pulled tight and lights nicely.

– Neewer Step and Repeat: this is the one I prefer, you may like a different one. Its to hold the banner, if you choose to use one.

Microphone
– Focusrite 2i2 Gen 3 Interface: allows you to use an XLR type microphone via USB 3.0.

– Tascam Studio Head Phones: Prevents sound from escaping and going back in the mic. Any earmuff type mic will work for this.

– Shure SM7B: The “Legendary” studio microphone. This is the single best microphone I’ve ever used. I use the out of the box settings on it. You may want to mess with them depending on how much bass you want from your voice.

– Cloud Lifter Pre Amp: Out of the box, the above Shure mic doesn’t have enough power so you will have to have the volume 90% up which means you’ll pick up EVERY background noise and movement. The cloud lifter adds extra decibels to your mic so it has a nicer sound, picks up less noise.

– Shure Boom Arm: Allows you to move the mic around. I prefer a boom arm, you may like a regular stand, but this is what olds my mic for recording.

Software
– Riverside.FM: its the best on the market. Records on each device then uploads to the cloud rather than through your internet connection. So, even if you internet sucks, the recording is perfect.

–Webcam Settings App for Mac: Is the game changer for any webcam. You can adjust the white balance and all the other things in it. The most important setting is aperture and two toggles under that. Thats the night and day difference in the image above. The below is just a screen shot and not my exact settings, adjust these first for best picture quality.

–Krisp.ai: It’s a smart sound filter. It’s blocked out my daughter crying in the background before; the guest has had no idea. I used it when it first came out, but then discontinued since there was a drop in sound quality. The latest version records in HD, so its literally perfect.
